Harry Horner (1910 – 1994)

Harry Horner was born in Holitz, Austria-Hungary in 1910 (present-day Czech Republic). A contemporary of Max Reinhardt, Horner followed him to the United States as stage manager. As an art director, Horner won two Academy Awards for Best Production Design for The Heiress (1949) and The Hustler (1961) and was nominated a third time for They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969). Horner also worked as a director in both film and in television, including the well-known Western drama Gunsmoke (1952 – 1961).
