Wolfgang Pauli (1900–1958), Physicist.
Born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, Ernst Pauli was one of the pioneers of quantum physics. For his work he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1945. Pauli earned his Ph.D. at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. Two months after graduation he published a 237-page article reviewing Einstein's theory of relativity for the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences - the work, praised by Einstein, remains a standard reference today. After holding positions at several prestigious universities in Germany, Switzerland and the United States (Michigan and Princeton), Pauli emigrated to the U.S. in 1940 and became a naturalized citizen while working at the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ. Pauli would eventually return to Zurich, Switzerland, where he passed away in 1958.
